II3BVV Special Event Station, active from 24 October to 4 November 2018
On the centenary of the Battle of Vittorio Veneto, whose results led to the end of the First World War.
Historical overview
Between the summer of 1914 and the winter of 1918 the First World War was fought, one of the bloodiest conflicts in the history of mankind and, until then, the geographically more extensive one. The Italian army in November 1917, after the events of Caporetto, had withdrawn and attested on a front that developed according to the line comprising, from east to west, the low course of the river Piave, the Monte Grappa, the plateau of Asiago, the Monte Pasubio, the Monte Baldo, up to the Tonale pass. Thus began for the occupied territories a year of extreme sacrifice, what in the popular culture of the time was renamed as "the year of hunger".
After having rejected the last great offensive of the Austro-Hungarian army in June 1918, on 24 October of the same year the Italian army, which had been joined by departments of other allied armies, started the preliminary operations of the Battle of Vittorio Veneto. After this last fact of war lasted 12 days, the conflict ended with the signing of the Villa Giusti armistice. The conflict costed only for Italy over 1,200,000 victims between the military and civilians.
